In the Democratic Republic of Congo there are four main languages:
Lingala, Kikongo, Tshiluba and Swahili.

Each of these languages is beautiful and contains a wealth of very
precise descriptions and metaphors. Too often Congolese parents who
consider themselves „modern“ do not value their mother tongue and do not
even pass it on to their children. They have been misled into thinking
that African languages are „primitive“. A culture of fostering and
careful updating of the African language has not been able to develop
properly when compared to the cultures of Europe or Asia.

Among the four languages mentioned above Lingala is the most widely
spoken in the country. Lingala is very popular and easy to learn since
it combines elements of the other major languages Kikongo, Tshiluba and
Suaheli.

We want to raise awareness about the often naive misconceptions that we
the Congolese have when dealing with our own cultures and to this avail
we especially focus as mentioned above on the undeserved disregard for
our languages. Fortunately there are Congolese who have already
recognized these drawbacks and there are now dictionaries available for
Lingala
